 The Philippines (officially known as The Republic of The Philippines) is located in South Asia. Its capital is Manila.

It shares boundary with countries like Indonesia, China, Malaysia, etc, and close to Australia. It is the world’s 12th most populous country with a population of about 87 million people. It was first colonized by Spain and later by USA, until July 4, 1946 when it gained its independence from USA.

Philippines is the 3rd largest English-speaking country in the world, and the largest English-speaking country in Asia. The literacy rate in Philippines is 94%.

English Language is the medium of instruction at all the three levels of education—elementary, high school, and university—in Philippines.

 

Education In Philippines

Philippines educational system has three tiers—elementary, high school, and tertiary. Philippines follows the American system of education. The tertiary education is semester-based like in America. It has three semesters; First, Second and Summer Semesters. Though a few Universities run four-semester system of First, Second, Third, and Summer Semesters.  Admission is open to students three times in a year in each semester in this order:

 

April - June            ------------- First Semester

August – October  ------------ Second Semester

February - March    ----------- Summer Semester.

TUITION AND ACCOMMODATION FEES AND COST OF LIVING

Philippines universities are one of the most affordable universities in the world. The fee varies from one school to the other, and also depends on the course and the number of subjects enrolled in a semester. The fees are paid per semester.

 

Tuition Fee

 

$1000 to $2000 per semester (for other courses)

 

$2,000 to $3,000 per semester (for Medicine)

 

Accommodation

 $80 to $150 per month

 

Cost of Living

$ 100 per month.

The cost of living is very low in Philippines. The country has varieties of food—different types of rice, fish, meat, vegetables, fruits, beans, etc, and transportation is not expensive too.

 

Medical Education In Philippines

Philippines has 2,180 tertiary institutions, and a number of them offer medical education. The medical course in Philippines is called MD Program (Doctor of Medicine) just like in America and European Countries. The MD is equivalent to MBBS like in UK, India, Nigeria, and other Commonwealth countries. Medical course in Philippines is studied as a graduate course. Thus, to study Medicine in Philippines, a student must first of all obtain a Bachelors Degree in Biomedical Sciences or any Medical related discipline.

 

**The duration for medical education is 4 years.

 

Note: Students can obtain Bachelor degree in Biomedical Sciences within two years in some Universities in Philippines, and then apply for medical course immediately.

**Bachelor degree holders from Nigerian Universities can be taken directly into Medicine in Philippines after taking entrance exam called NMAT.
